Box HouseDuring the Spring of my first year of Architecture school, I produced a dwelling that had an envelope completely composed of bookshelves. This idea was extremely interesting to me and has remained with me. In the following Summer, while living out of a few boxes, I was also very interested in the nomadic lifestyle and how easily these boxes turned into a makeshift bookshelf.
For this project, I wanted to start with a shipping container. This container would be modified to be habitable, containing a bathroom, kitchen, and bed. But during transit the remaining space would be occupied by the framework to hold and boxes containing the occupant's possessions. |
Mini-BostonThis project came from my Design Studio V proposal. The scale of the actual design studio's prompt was far too large for my personal style to come through and became daunting at some points. In order to reconcile the feelings I had for my studio proposal in my mind, I kept a very similar massing and programmatic layout of the studio proposal but at completely different scale.
It contains all that is necessary to live without any embellishments or flourishes but still affords ample space for comfort. In addition to this, the dwelling is designed to be almost completely self sufficient with the larger utility spaces for water purification, sewage remediation, and heating. |
